Idle Reduction Program
An easy way to reduce air emissions and save money is to reduce how much vehicles idle. The air emissions from idling vehicles not only contribute to the formation of ground-level ozone, but they also include toxic air pollutants and pollutants that can contribute to climate change. The Ozarks Clean Air Alliance (OCAA) is working with several partners in the community to promote a voluntary idle reduction program. This program encourages area businesses, local governments, utilities, and other organizations to adopt an idle reduction policy/program or actively promote and enforce their existing idle reduction policy. The high price of diesel and gasoline has prompted many organizations to begin this effort. However, we are encouraging organizations to take a formal step to include idle reduction as an operational practice to ensure that it will be sustainable throughout future fuel price fluctuations.
